MEET BIZZCUIT
"WHAT KEEPS ME GOING IS THE REALIZATION OF WHY I STARTED."
Who is Bizzcuit?
In the ever-evolving landscape of South African hip-hop, Bizzcuit, born Tholakele Mkwanazi, has carved out a space defined by grit, authenticity, and lyrical power. Hailing from East Rand South, Gauteng, she embodies the spirit of hustle that continues to shape township music culture — a story that began not in a studio, but with a handful of biscuits.
From Poetry to the Mic
Bizzcuit’s path into music began with poetry, a creative outlet that sharpened her pen and her voice. Her transition into rap was natural — words that once filled notebooks soon found rhythm and cadence. Her breakthrough single, “Stupid Flow,” became an underground favorite and even turned into a jingle for a show on YFM, marking her arrival on the local scene.
Her stage name, Bizzcuit, is more than just a catchy moniker. It comes from her early hustle — selling biscuits to raise funds for studio time. That story has since become a symbol of determination and resourcefulness, perfectly mirroring the ethos of her music.
Sound and Style: The Fusion of Cultures
Bizzcuit’s artistry is defined by diversity and fusion. She blends hip-hop, trap, trap-soul, and kasi rap, creating a sound that’s distinctly South African yet globally resonant. Her delivery oscillates between smooth introspection and fiery confidence, reflecting her own multifaceted identity as a woman, artist, and entrepreneur.
In interviews, she has described her sound as “a rainbow” — colorful, layered, and filled with emotion. This fluidity allows her to move seamlessly between street-inspired verses and soulful melodies, appealing to both hardcore rap fans and mainstream audiences.
The Journey: A Debut that Defined a New Chapter
In 2022, Bizzcuit released her debut album, The Journey, a project that lived up to its title. The album told stories of growth, ambition, pain, and purpose — all underscored by her unrelenting drive. It featured collaborations with some of South Africa’s most respected names, including Maglera Doe Boy, Touchline, Anzo, and Bone.
The success of The Journey led to a Deluxe Edition, which added new tracks and visuals such as the standout video for “Memeza.” The album’s impact earned her nominations at the South African Hip Hop Awards, solidifying her as one of the most promising female rappers in the country.
Recognition and Achievements
Bizzcuit’s rise hasn’t gone unnoticed.
She won Best Female Artist and Best Music Video at the Ekurhuleni Teen Trap Music Awards (ETTMA) in 2019.
She earned multiple nominations at the South African Hip Hop Awards, including the prestigious Best Female Rapper category.
Her songs have surpassed 100,000 streams on major platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.
In 2023, her track “Somebody to Love” (featuring Bone) was featured in the South African film The Honeymoon, while other songs appeared in the Netflix series Miseducation.
These accomplishments reflect her growing presence both in South Africa’s vibrant hip-hop scene and beyond.
New Era: Evolution and Empowerment
In 2024, Bizzcuit ushered in a new creative phase with her EP NEW ERA, a seven-track body of work that captured her evolution as an artist and woman. The project fused introspection with empowerment, touching on themes of resilience, authenticity, and independence.
Through her music, Bizzcuit advocates for female empowerment in a male-dominated industry. She continues to speak openly about the challenges of navigating the South African hip-hop space as a woman — not to complain, but to inspire. Her message is simple yet powerful: women belong at the forefront of rap, not the sidelines.
Legacy in the Making
From selling biscuits to recording hit records, Bizzcuit’s story is one of tenacity, transformation, and triumph. Her artistry reflects not only her personal journey but also the broader narrative of South African hip-hop — one defined by resilience and reinvention.
As she continues to grow her audience, collaborate with influential artists, and push creative boundaries, Bizzcuit is proving that her grind is more than just a metaphor — it’s a movement.
In her own words:
“My story isn’t just about music — it’s about believing in yourself, no matter where you start.”
